Electric pulses spawn the urge to powerfully dance.
I remember living with a group of friends in the latter half of the 90s, and within our living room, one of those friends was playing a then-new Eat Static album by way of a compact disc.
The sound design struck my mind pleasurably and intensely, as Eat Static has a tendency to accomplish, but this song was the pinnacle for me within that series of sonic tracks.
Dropped into a spacey modern technological environment, the strong beat pulses hynotically with accompanying electric jungle percussion.
But it is that first electric sweeping synth loop that sealed the sense of a special musical advance.
If you remember that part of the 90s, but have never heard this song before, then you might be able to appreciate how positively distinctive this edgy dance song would have been.
Eat Static always struck me with an extra level of talent and dedication to release what I felt rose above the typical ‘four on the floor’ dance material.
My spacemix attempts to modernize that sensation to bring that edge to our modernity.
To relive my experience to some inevitably inaccurate degree at least due to temporal distance, here is the original mix for your convenient comparison…
