WQP21 Spacemix

A fresh audio ride bursts onto the scene…

People who prefer a surprising event must avoid the following verbalization herein, because yours truly is about to describe that naturally 2020-themed ride in reasonable detail.

Final spoiler alert expressed instantly, let us share in the relevant illumination.

All but the last song are a handful of hidden gems (imho) that I encountered in my younger days during the 80’s and 90’s. The last song is a gem too, but one of modern release.

For the uninitiated, spacemixing inclusively is a form of (re)mastering — an audio engineering technique typically used to finely polish a resulting audio mix with minimal compression, equalization, and appropriately whatever else. While (re)mastering typically minimizes tonal adjustments to avoid ruining the spirit of the original mix, spacemixing innovatively is a highly creative approach that involves adding a fitting number of low-volume sonic layers, each containing (typically a series of) spatial effects to modernize the original mix with intricate textures; all with the option to retain the original spirit, or artistically express a different angle. Moreover, spacemixing includes the addition of sound (e.g. instrument) layers wherever fit.

This WQP21 spacemix is danceable, although some variation exists, including the last song being an ambient piece.

We launch with “Follow the Leader” by Eric B. & Rakim, a flying rap atop inclusively a powerful bass line that hooked me instantly in my late teens and sustains that impact many (amusingly sigh, many) days later. A tiny bit of production in the form of three sonic hits was added around the end of the song for a hint of sonic variation.

Timely plopped in next is one of my favorite Front Line Assembly songs called “The Blade” to transition into a science fiction style of electronic industrial.

Blending further into science fiction, we transition to “The Robots (The Mix)” by Kraftwerk. This is the only other song within the WQP21 spacemix to receive added instruments — specifically in the form of complex ambient textures with off-timing elements for a spacier and more intricate soundscape effect. Note the added instrumentation occurs after a sufficient duration, so the value of solely playing this rather lengthy original mix can be amply enjoyed first.

Over the hill and knocked into the negative direction, we drop into The Comsat Angels’ “I’m Falling”. If this song sounds familiar, it could be due to its inclusion within the classic 80’s movie titled “Real Genius” (one of my favorite movies fwiw and btw).

Pressed into the toughest part of this ride, Front Line Assembly with a reasonably heavy-enough weight returns via another of my still-favorite pieces of theirs titled “Final Impact”.

Negativity somewhat subsiding, we gently place into The Fixx, where we have a very musically well-expressed choice to “Stand or Fall”.

Smartly choosing the standing option, we rise with Howard Jone’s “Things are Going to Get Better”.

To bring the ride to a relaxing and at least attemptive spiritualized conclusion, we leave the 80’s and 90’s to modernly chill in the comfortable waves provided via “Signals 6”, a technologically infused soundscape provided by Motionfield. In case you are wondering, I have no idea what the Morse code says, but I hope it is something fitting.

I always release these spacemixes in part to raise awareness of the need to financially support the artistic community. If financially supporting my artistic contribution to that community fits your agenda, tipping any amount to yours truly via my tipping page is wonderfully sufficient and appreciated… https://streamelements.com/spiritwave7/tip

Whatever way you choose to ride this sonic ride (or otherwise), my sincerest preference is that you feel rewarded from the experience.✌️

I am an honest freak (or reasonably responsibly balanced "misfit", if you prefer) of an artist working and resting to best carefully contribute towards helping society. Too many people abuse reasoning (e.g. 'partial truth = whole truth' scam), while I exercise reason to explore and express whole truth without any conflict-of-interest -- all within a sometimes offbeat style of psychedelic artistry.
