The increasing supply of legal marijuana is turning into a major buzz kill for growers as prices plunge — and an opportunity for companies that can help cut production costs.
Prices are tumbling as formerly illicit cultivators emerge from the shadows to invest millions of dollars in massive pot factories.
If vaporization becomes the most popular intake method — which it should, based upon the healthier impact and the much improved efficiency (saving the user a lot of money — e.g. an ounce could last 3-4 years, even with the small pinch used daily that still can bring reasonably strong effects that most people will arguably likely prefer) — then the whole cannabis marketplace will be radically redefined.
One plant apparently yields roughly 1-4 ounces per harvest (the latter upon a professional level of growing these days), so a vape user could rely upon that one harvest for years (if not over a decade).
Quantity will not be the major thrust of this industry then, but quality and uniqueness will be. That is because vape users such as yours truly love to carefully collect and combine strains per usage session. I do not need a lot of any given strain, but I love to have a lot of different strains to craft cannabis compositions to fit my (sometimes our) moment. Mixing Blue Dream, Grapefruit, and Purple Kush in a 50/40/10 percent ratio respectively is a nice example that I assume most people would enjoy. Cannabis salads add (possibly much) more texture and depth to the effects, so creates (possibly much) more interest in the experience.
Supply eventually greatly outstrips demand (even if smoking remains preferred), which will send prices plummeting, so wipe out a lot of weak competitors deeply investing in growing quantity for market dominance.
Success in the cannabis industry will not be about selling in quantity, but about selling well based upon quality and likely offering ample strain variation to keep the company’s brand recognition strong. Part of that variation will be selling pre-made cannabis salads to the many people arguably likely preferring to avoid having to always craft their own.
I will not have to go to the cannabis store frequently, but when a retailer offers a unique strain and/or cannabis salad for my collection, that is when me and my money will be there. Being able to invitingly secure and then reach out to customers via email (and/or such) will be important for such notifications.
Pricing will then depend upon the quality combined with the rarity of the strain.
Mainstream strains will be unbelievably inexpensive due to supply and demand (assuming mainstream suppliers do not collude to illegally fix prices).
If supply grows wildly out of control (which would not surprise me), then (perhaps ample) excess cannabis will end up being free offerings, or thrown away as useless.
That is my humble and logical prediction. Either way, cannabis legality is a great thing for responsible cannabis users.
Prompting article: Why legal cannabis is becoming a major buzzkill for some growers
I am an honest freak (or reasonably responsibly balanced "misfit", if you prefer) of an artist working and resting to best carefully contribute towards helping society. Too many people abuse reasoning (e.g. 'partial truth = whole truth' scam), while I exercise reason to explore and express whole truth without any conflict-of-interest -- all within a sometimes offbeat style of psychedelic artistry.
