Print Your Own Drugs, For Health and Fun (Reason.com)
Welcome to the “future” — where drugs and guns can be printed on demand.
My prediction is 3D printers will become correspondingly regulated upon reaching a price point where drug and gun printing is possibly widespread.
That would mean a filter set telling your printer that you cannot print banned items, and possibly notifying local authorities upon any effort in that forbidden territory.
Just as criminals frequently and reasonably easily obtain questionable (if not dangerous) drugs and guns in the black market (despite similar regulations), relevant printers will similarly be obtained there with all legal issues criminally resolved.
Unhealthy stress is the cause of drug and gun abuse (which is obviously distinct from use).
Harm — not technology discrimination — should be the societal focus, but my cynic is sadly alive and well as part of my prediction. More regulations “to protect the children”.
Fix the unhealthy stress (which dutifully improves all lives anyway), and the (perhaps heavily) taxpayer-funded regulation(s) — and horribly violent black market empowerment in the drugs and guns case — becomes moot.
That’s the “future” fix that I (and preferably you) prefer to enable.
I am an honest freak (or reasonably responsibly balanced "misfit", if you prefer) of an artist working and resting to best carefully contribute towards helping society. Too many people abuse reasoning (e.g. 'partial truth = whole truth' scam), while I exercise reason to explore and express whole truth without any conflict-of-interest -- all within a sometimes offbeat style of psychedelic artistry.
