Biking High

Prompted by “Study Concludes Biking While High on Marijuana Isn’t Dangerous”: http://www.marijuana.com/blog/news/2016/01/study-concludes-biking-while-high-on-marijuana-isnt-dangerous/

The participants in the experiment rode a bike through an obstacle course while completely sober and then after smoking one, two and three joints.

“Hardly any coordinative disturbances could be detected under the influence of high or very high THC concentrations,” the study, published by the International Journal of Legal Medicine this week, found.

Interesting result, and I’m not shocked overall, but questions remain in the further interest of science (and consequently health).

First, there’s no apparent control regarding the cannabis user in the experiment. Are all of the users equally experienced in cannabis use? Are any of them beginners? The quality of the user is a serious scientific factor in any case involving cannabis use, and must be technically precisely measured for certainty demanded by the scientific method.

Second, but equally important, without factoring in the complexity of strain differential (basically hundreds of strains exist to cover a dramatically wide and colorful set of psychological effects), there’s no way to scientifically say that cannabis doesn’t impair bike riding. Cannabis is too vaguely defined for scientific certainty. Ending Cannabis Prohibition logically helps scientists on this key front, but staying tuned with the rapid evolution and relatively brief trends of cannabis strains presents a continuous challenge even then.

Anyone familiar with cannabis understands that some strains produce stable psychological effects (which could even logically help improve bike riding via better neurological stabilization — phytocannabinoid-encouraged composure), while others modulate in any of many ways (including disorienting ones).

Overall, the study thankfully presses forwards on the idea that adapting to cannabis’ perception alteration is at least reasonably easy, but more research is needed to justify scientific affirmation.

I don’t believe that ripping several bong hits of Qrazy Train (or such) and then riding a bike (especially amongst traffic in the city) is smart, but the ability to avoid that intense and complexly modulating neurological symphony is thankfully extremely easy, and likely welcomed by the majority of mainstream cannabis users (people with a natural appreciation for survival instinct) upon prohibition’s inevitable and thankful end.

When legality permits, I’ll go into more detail regarding responsible cannabis use with the intention (and maximum effort for competence) to help users avoid becoming abusers.

I am an honest freak (or reasonably responsibly balanced "misfit", if you prefer) of an artist working and resting to best carefully contribute towards helping society. Too many people abuse reasoning (e.g. 'partial truth = whole truth' scam), while I exercise reason to explore and express whole truth without any conflict-of-interest -- all within a sometimes offbeat style of psychedelic artistry.
