The annual number of arrests for marijuana offenses in the U.S. increased last year for the first time since 2009, according to the Uniform Crime Report released Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
An estimated 700,993 arrests were made nationwide for marijuana-related offenses in 2014 — up from 693,058 in 2013 — of which 88.42% were for possession.
That’s over 700,000 seriously disrupted lives (actual harm). And what concrete evidence exists proving societal benefit after several decades of that disruption? None.
“It’s hard to imagine why more people were arrested for marijuana possession when fewer people than ever believe it should be a crime. Law enforcement officials should not be wasting their time and resources arresting and prosecuting adults for using marijuana. While law enforcement was busy making nearly three quarters of a million marijuana arrests, more than 35% of murders went unsolved, the clearance rate for rape was less than 40%, and for robbery and property crimes, it was below 30%.”
It’s not hard to imagine. At least our nation is dominated by the embrace of corrupting law for self-serving agendas (amply successfully without public scrutiny, thank you essentially corrupt mainstream media), so the result being a bunch of sanctioned thugs being sanctioned thugs despite “We the people” demanding otherwise often in the form of poll data (not exactly a passionate demand) doesn’t surprise yours truly.
In addition to the aforementioned harm, there’s the additional harm from taxpayers wasting billions of precious dollars annually, and the serious harm from crimes neglected to pursue the possession of a plant.
“Could you imagine if hundreds of thousands of adults were arrested last year simply for possessing alcohol? That would be crazy. It’s even crazier that hundreds of thousands of adults were arrested for possessing a less harmful substance,” Tvert added. “As long as we have these silly laws on the books, law enforcement resources will be wasted on enforcing them. It’s time for state officials to step up and end the outdated policy of marijuana prohibition.”
People were arrested for possessing alcohol during Alcohol Prohibition, and all that resulted was a repeal of Alcohol Prohibition (which required a federal constitutional amendment).
But sanctioned thugs need their prohibition fix, so they have been rewarded (despite the judicially obligatory but nationally ignored unalienable right to liberty) with the bigger and badder sequel known as Certain Drug Prohibition. This latter prohibition didn’t require a federal constitutional amendment, because our Supreme Court illegally redefined the Commerce Clause from “regulate commerce” to ‘regulate any activity having a substantial effect on commerce’ (as repeatedly proven in smoking gun — actually nuclear fallout — form in the public record), and then they insanely declared that holding a certain plant in an American hand has that effect.
Please stop saying “less harmful substance”. You’re on our side, for crying out loud. The fact is there’s no experimental science concluding any harm from moderate cannabis use, so stop associating the harm of abuse with the absence of harm in proper use. Cannabis is at least scientifically suggested (and often anecdotally proven — e.g. my mother improving after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease) to be seriously beneficial.
State officials (and our public servants at large) have demonstrated extremely to be in favor of Certain Drug Prohibition, so please stop wasting activism ‘points’ towards the traditional (not really liberal/progressive) political leftist view that the public can properly negotiate with our government (serious conflicts of interest against public safety have overwhelmingly proved the contrary). Cannabis “legality” (actually illegally replacing prohibition with textured prohibition — i.e. regulations) has mainly (if not completely) come from voter initiatives, so not the unfortunately oxymoron of governmental wisdom that bites the public hand that feeds to corruptly reward their oligarchy against public safety (i.e. they ultimately greedily corrupt our national society for themselves as a net result).
It’s time for the American people to embrace their duty to care about law as a necessary part of caring about liberty. Please reread that last sentence until it becomes a permanent part of your life.
Without that care, the oligarchy is doing whatever they want, limited only by their own inner turmoil as the aggressive bid for conflicting power. The rule-of-law has been seriously discredited as a result, and not only does that put the public at severe risk, but it also puts good members of our law enforcement at that same level of risk.
“We the people” are idly standing excessively by, while the oligarchy is bending “We the people” over and sending the right message to children.
Shame upon us all for allowing this deep and wide outrage to continuously pound against sanity.
