Prompted by “Chicago to Pay in Police Torture Scandal”: http://www.hightimes.com/read/chicago-pay-police-torture-scandal
“The city of Chicago on April 14 proposed a $5.5 million reparations fund for dozens of torture victims connected to former police Commander Jon Burge and his so-called ‘midnight crew of rogue detectives,’ the Chicago Tribune reports.
The proposal, negotiated with a plaintiff’s attorney and supported by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, would offer free city college tuition for victims and their families, free psychological counseling, and other such assistance to more than 50 potential victims. The city would also issue a formal apology, create a permanent memorial recognizing the victims and ensure that the new generation of students in Chicago public schools is taught about the Burge case. Other inmates who assert their confessions were extracted through torture continue to fight to overturn convictions and win their freedom. The scandal has already cost tax-payers some $100 million in lawsuit settlements, judgments and other legal costs.”
Freedom is not free. That includes taxpayers footing the bill for corruption from law abuse.
A serious part of the war on some drugs that remains (at least excessively) left out of the mainstream media’s news press is the one about the destructive results (i.e. actual mass harm) from that same form of abuse, so the public majority never truly gets the ‘law abuse is terribly awful and must be primarily addressed due to broadest damage’ message creating the right public backlash against such “(l)awful” corruption.
For public safety, good cops (those actually serving and protecting the public) need a sufficiently powerful public intervention against bad cops, and bad cops (and anyone else thinking they get away with abusing power) need to understand the Rule of Reality (i.e. reality’s scientific need for balance) must ‘kick the ever living crap of them’ (stated in a way clearly understood by sanctioned thugs) to balance out their evil ways without any hope of escaping that terrible fate (hardcore scientifically speaking).
Abusive results come from compensating for unhealthy stress (as effectively mandated by imperfection within reality), and likely cannot be eliminated. However, understanding that abuse is always paid for in full (i.e. the Rule of Reality) provides adequate incentive to press people to adapt their lives to negate recklessly pursuing abusive ways (abuse is the signal to adapt or fail).
Just say no to drugs? Just say (actually publicly demonstrate) no to sanctioned thugs. Also educate about intentional perception alteration use and abuse (from drugs, technology, religion, etc.) to minimize the latter.
