The Great Non-Associated Depression

Prompted by “Study: No Longitudinal Association Between Cannabis Use and Depression”: http://www.thedailychronic.net/2014/39527/study-no-longitudinal-association-between-cannabis-use-and-depression/

Depression obviously results from unhealthy stress.

Cannabis does not always cause unhealthy stress, as anyone sufficiently familiar with the plant can attest.

We know that balance is required for the stability of literally every system (living or not) in existence, and that existence itself demonstrates a similar requirement (feel free to read Reality Waveform theory for details).

Positive dominant (“posdom”) experiences always have a balancing negative dominant (“negdom” for “baldom”), and vice versa (noting positive, negative, and balance within reality are subjective).

As the brain is a set of energy currents apparently largely defying human perception, we can reasonably assume that depression is similar to “bad” weather (e.g. storm). To ride out an actual storm, we usually need shelter. To ride out a mental storm, we usually need a mental shelter, and that is why drug intake (especially automatic painkillers) is so popular.

Cannabis (like any psychedelic drug meeting my familiarity) does not offer an automatic-feel-good experience. When used properly, cannabis functions as that shelter (which can then be strengthened by other therapies, such as music therapy, massage therapy, etc.) When abused (e.g. reckless strain selection equaling poor strain selection), that mental storm is logically concernedly strengthened.

I hope you will help us spread the message that strain selection is important when properly using cannabis (I have found no where near enough respect for that obvious fact), because the legality of that use continues to expand with no sign of (nor justification for) diminishing.

While increased availability from legality does not necessarily mean increased usage (prohibition does not work, so market saturation makes sense), ensuring that people choosing to lawfully use cannabis remain firmly aware of the risk (especially that from improper intake) is paramount for civility. Legality thankfully counters the painfully limited strain selection that comes from buying a seedy dime bag from your local drug dealer working the streets, and instead provides many healthily competing locations with nice menus listing available strains (each menu likely being at least somewhat unique). Given that cannabis can be professionally grown basically anywhere, excellent strain purity likely becomes the default, so any choice on that menu will be prime, but the effects can be dramatically different between strains (i.e. a whole variety of effects exist, and each one can contribute to posdom/baldom/negdom contingent upon many factors — commonly known as “set and setting”, or basically mindset and environment). In other (and metaphorical) words, even the best movie suffers when viewed in a misfitting context.

A strain effect is like a song effect. I maintain audio (and probably video too) can be used to basically replicate the strain effect, so cannabis users can at least gain some prior sense of the strain they are about to try (and there is nothing depressing about that expansion into a far healthier cannabis culture).

I am an honest freak (or reasonably responsibly balanced "misfit", if you prefer) of an artist working and resting to best carefully contribute towards helping society. Too many people abuse reasoning (e.g. 'partial truth = whole truth' scam), while I exercise reason to explore and express whole truth without any conflict-of-interest -- all within a sometimes offbeat style of psychedelic artistry.
