Neuroprotecting

Prompted by “Misinformation: Marijuana vs. Your Brain”: http://www.hightimes.com/read/misinformation-marijuana-vs-your-brain

Gently putting aside the typical unscientific “science” against cannabis dominating the prompting article, I felt the following section of the article needs to publicly resonate more (especially for those people deadly challenged by neurodegenerative diseases failing to find relief in the seriously limited pharmaceuticals addressing such horrible conditions)…

“Especially when we already have a long trail of science establishing cannabis as a proven neuroprotectant, not the least of which being Patent No. 6630507, held by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and titled ‘Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants.’

‘Cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants,’ according to the patent, held by the same federal government that continues to block medical marijuana research, ‘for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia.’

I confess that I am unaware of whether or not our government has properly responded to the questionable nature of their patent in this case (i.e. provided the public a valid reason for securing that patent, while their Food and Drug Administration formally rejects the medicinal nature of cannabis). At least from this viewpoint, withholding understood medicinal benefit against millions of sufferers of serious neurological diseases (and apparently a lot more sufferers when factoring the full anti-inflammatory nature of cannabis) due to protecting the prohibitionists’ power (the only “intelligent” reason for such withholding) is blatantly unethical and illegal (e.g. rights-infringing), and demands serious repercussions by the public via the application of law — an application sadly rarely, if ever, experienced these days against rogue public servants to the overall protection of all non-rights-infringing people (but an application illegally misapplied against millions of such people for decades and counting).

I am an honest freak (or reasonably responsibly balanced "misfit", if you prefer) of an artist working and resting to best carefully contribute towards helping society. Too many people abuse reasoning (e.g. 'partial truth = whole truth' scam), while I exercise reason to explore and express whole truth without any conflict-of-interest -- all within a sometimes offbeat style of psychedelic artistry.
